THE FAMILIE VELDMEIJER

The Veltmeier family lived in Liesborn in Germany in 1684. There were probably already farms in the vicinity of the Liesborn Baptismal Church before 784. The name was Feltmeijer - Feltmaijer at that time. This name originated because the family worked in the countryside as mowers of grass and grain, Stephan Schomaker was married to Gertrud Veltmeier. Gertrud probably inherited her parents' house / farm. The spouse then had the right to accept the name of the farm to which he is married. This is how the last name was changed from Schomaker to Veltmeier. This method is traditionally used, just as everything was written down by hand. When changing ownership of a House / Court (with other owners), the surname remained e.g. exist in tax lists. Always the same house name / surname. So nothing had to be deleted or rewritten! The Schomaker family lived in Liesborn, peasantry Hentrup No. 25. Landowner was Freiherr von Nagel at Vornholz Castle in Ostenfelde. The compilation of the genealogies of different Liesborn families has been collected by the teacher Heinrich Terhaar (1866 - 1932). Anton (Antoni) FELTMEIER (VELDMAIJER), left Liesborn to marry Peternelletje Evertzen at the age of 24 in 09-10-1746 for the church in Maartensdijk. Willem Antoni moved to Hilversum on May 15, 1785 with Willempje Aardse Suuk
